Reducing our climate impact

Country of manufacture matters

We are very proud that our furniture is manufactured in our own factories in Småland. Craftsmanship is deeply rooted here.

We have two production facilities. In Vaggeryd, we work with wood processing, surface finishing, and upholstery, while in Äng, our sewing and upholstery of upholstered furniture take place.

Since 2017, both facilities have been powered by renewable electricity. For heating, we have used geothermal energy in Äng since 2014 and district heating based on local biofuels in Vaggeryd since 2017. Since 2017, all operational electricity across our facilities has been fossil-free.

If the same piece of furniture were manufactured using the same construction and materials in Poland or China, it would result in 11 times higher emissions.

When calculating the CO₂ footprint of our furniture, we clearly see how significant the country of manufacture is. Using the certified EPD International tool, we compared production in our factory in Småland with producing the same piece of furniture—using identical construction and materials—in Poland or China, both major furniture-producing countries.

The results show that manufacturing in Poland or China would generate 11 times higher emissions. The main difference between these countries lies in the energy mix. In Sweden, 98% of electricity production is fossil-free, compared to a much higher reliance on fossil fuels—such as coal—in Poland and China.

Transportation and Suppliers

Most of our suppliers are located in southern Sweden, which helps keep the climate impact from transportation low. Polyurethane foam is sourced from Sweden or Denmark, and veneer comes—depending on the wood species—from Germany, Poland, or the Czech Republic.

Sheepskin is supplied by our partners in Sweden, who in turn source it from Australia, New Zealand, or Sweden.

One of the challenges related to transportation to and from customers is the availability of fossil-free options. Most deliveries are handled by transport companies within Sweden, and then onward to Norway and the United Kingdom. We see a challenge in finding cost-effective transport providers using fossil-free vehicles, but our ambition is to continue developing more sustainable shipping solutions.

Today, our company cars consist largely of hybrid vehicles.
